G-Drive Racing is set to bolster the FIA World Endurance Championship LMP2 field with an entry into the 8 Hours of Bahrain later this year.

The team currently leading the European Le Mans Series title race will field its No. 26 Oreca-based Aurus 01 Gibson in the fourth round of the 2019-20 season.

Team owner and 2015 WEC LMP2 drivers’ co-champion Roman Rusinov is the first driver to be named in the entry.

Rusinov’s co-drivers in the ELMS are Dutch racer Job van Uitert and two-time ABB FIA Formula E champion Jean-Eric Vergne.

This was the trio that contested the G-Drive outfit’s last race appearance in the WEC beyond the 24 Hours of Le Mans, when it finished second in the penultimate round of the 2018-19 season at Spa in May this year.

The unexpected additional cameo for Bahrain is set to lift the number of cars on the LMP2 grid to nine cars.

It will also mean French team TDS Racing, which runs Rusinov’s program and the full-season Racing Team Nederland Oreca, will be in charge of two cars at Sakhir International Circuit on Dec. 12-14.
