Denmark Ruled Out of GT Cup Main Event after Ferrari Clash

Denmark’s Honda NSX GT3 Evo has been ruled out of this afternoon’s FIA Motorsport Games medal contest at Vallelunga after sustaining damage in Qualifying Race 2.

Jens Reno Moller was running in the top ten when he was involved in a clash with the Italy Ferrari 488 GT3 of Gianluca Roda in the latter stages of the race.

Moller and his co-driver Christina Nielsen finished second in the first Qualifying Race held on Saturday, but the damage from the Race 2 contact forced them to withdraw from the weekend.

“The Italian car was two laps down, but he was racing as if he was in the top ten,” Moller told Sportscar365.

“I just passed the German car for eighth position and was having a really good race, but then I heard there was a yellow flag into Turn 10 [for the spun United States Ferrari].

“Then, the Italy Ferrari braked very early on the straight up to Turn 8. I tried to go on the inside, but there was a chain reaction: the Spain car hit me from behind and I hit the Italian car in front, and spun around.

“Somehow I hit something in the Ferrari that made a hole so I lost a lot of water.”

The damage to the Honda’s cooling system resulted in an engine failure that forced the car to retire.

Moller said that without the incident, Denmark could have been in medal contention for today’s 60-minute main race.

“I don’t know why they didn’t give the guy, who was two laps behind, a blue flag,” he said. “He was racing like he was fighting for the position.

“The car needs a new engine, it could all cost 100,000 euros. The damage is all around. It’s a shame because the combination of Christina and me was working very well. It was going perfect.

“If we had kept that position, we would have started on the third row of the grid for the race. It’s a big shame because we should have been fighting for the title.”

Additionally, the Russian-entered Ferrari that crashed out of Sunday’s second qualifying race will compete again after hasty repairs from the Rinaldi Racing team.

Denis Bulatov slid off track and into the tire barriers at the start of the race with most of the damage occurring on the left-rear side of the car.
