Steve Luca not only claimed his first career Mustang Cup USA class victory but also took overall honors in Sunday’s Parnelli Cup race at Road America, with the Dark Horse Legends class driver placing ahead of the entire Dark Horse field.

Luca, in the No. 24 Serpent Stangs Racing Ford Mustang Dark Horse R, took the overall lead with 28 minutes remaining in the 40-minute contest and led home a DHL 1-2 overall finish, ahead of the No. 68 Capaldi Racing entry of Craig Capaldi in second.

Logan Adams, who claimed overall honors in Saturday’s Miles Cup, came home third overall and took a weekend sweep in the Dark Horse class in his Capaldi Mustang.

Luca, however, was a force to be reckoned with in the Miles Cup race too, having taken the overall lead on Lap 1 until dropping out of the race after five laps due to an issue.

It gave DHL class honors in Saturday’s contest to Capaldi, who claimed his seventh class victory of the season.

A total of three cars failed to finish the first race of the weekend, including Corey Howard (Paley Motorsport/All American Motorsports) and David Luaces (Birdhouse Racing).

Sunday’s round, however, only saw a single retirement in TPC Racing’s Cliff Elliott, who was assessed with a stop-and-hold plus 30-second penalty for incident responsibility.

With a 74.5-point lead over Miller Richmond in Miles Cup and a 62-point advantage in Parnelli Cup, with a maximum of 61 points still available in each series, Capelli has already clinched both championships in DHL.

The battle in DH, however, is much tighter, with Adams just 20 points ahead of Kale Buhl in Miles Cup and 19 markers in the lead of Parnelli Cup heading into next month’s season finale at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta on Sept. 11-13.

RESULTS: Miles Cup Race/Parnelli Cup Race
