Kurtz, Braun Set for 24H Spa Debut in SPS Mercedes

George Kurtz and Colin Braun are set to make their debuts in the Total 24 Hours of Spa later this month, having been confirmed as part of SPS Automotive Peformance’s lineup for the Belgian endurance classic.

The CrowdStrike Racing duo, who are fresh off a runner-up finish in the GT World Challenge America powered by AWS Pro-Am championship, will team up with Dominik Baumann and Valentine Pierburg in a Pro-Am class Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo.

“It came together rather last minute, just before COTA [last month],” Kurtz told Sportscar365 while on the podium during last weekend’s Indianapolis 8 Hour.

“I was supposed to go last year but couldn’t do it. They’ve said, ‘Hey you’ve got to do this race.’

“We were winning the Mercedes championship before COTA and they said, ‘Hey we want you to go over there. They got a good team for us, SPS, so we’re excited.”

While having tackled some of the world’s most famous races, it will also mark Braun’s debut 24 Hours of Spa debut, in what’s arguably considered the premier GT3 endurance race in the world.

“I’ve done Le Mans, Daytona, Sebring so I’m really excited to do the 24 Hours of Spa,” Braun told Sportscar365.

“It’s going to be a lot of fun driving with George, obviously. The CrowdStrike car should be fast. It’s going to be a lot to take in because George has never been there.

“I drove in a Michelin Le Mans Cup race in 2018 in a LMP3 car. It had all of the conditions back then. At least I’ve got a bit of experience but it’s going to be different in a GT3 car.

“I’m really looking forward to getting over there and getting going.”

Kurtz said he’s excited for the challenge that Spa will present but has remained realistic about their chances considering they will not have any time to test in the build-up to the event.

“It’s a bucket list track. I’m just excited. We’ll get our feet wet. It came together very quickly so we’ll do the best we can.”
