Jordan Taylor will start tonight’s Motul 100% Synthetic Grand Prix from the pole after taking top qualifying honors for the 100-minute GT-only shootout at the Charlotte Motor Speedway Roval.
Taylor recorded a 1:14.278 in his championship-leading No. 3 Chevrolet Corvette C8.R to edge out the No. 911 Porsche 911 RSR-19 of Fred Makowiecki by 0.056 seconds.
It marked Corvette’s fourth pole of the season and Taylor’s second consecutive.
Bruno Spengler will start third in the No. 25 Team RLL BMW M8 GTE followed by the sister BMW of Jesse Krohn.
The No. 4 Corvette of Oliver Gavin completed the top-five after setting the early pace in the 15-minute scheduled session.
GTLM qualifying was halted with ten minutes to go when Laurens Vanthoor lost control of his No. 912 Porsche and slammed into the concrete barriers in the infield.
Vanthoor was unable to get the car back to the pits with right-rear suspension damage sustained. The Belgian will start the race from sixth on the GTLM grid.
AVS Autosport Takes Another Pole in GTD
Aaron Telitz scored his third GT Daytona class pole of the season, in a closely fought session.
Telitz reeled off a 1:17.954 in the No. 14 AIM Vasser Sullivan Lexus RC F GT3 to edge out the No. 96 Turner Motorsport BMW M6 GT3 of Robby Foley by 0.123 seconds.
The class championship-leading No. 86 Meyer Shank Racing Acura NSX GT3 Evo of Matt McMurry will start third, followed by the No. 76 Compass Racing McLaren 720S GT3 of series debutant Jeff Kingsley.
Kingsley, however, had a coming together with the No. 30 Team Hardpoint Audi R8 LMS GT3 Evo of Rob Ferriol at the checkered flag.
The No. 16 Wright Motorsports Porsche 911 GT3 R of Ryan Hardwick completed the top-five in class, despite incurring a five-minute stop-and-hold penalty for taking
