Kay van Berlo topped the time charts in the opening day of track action for Porsche Carrera Cup North America presented the Cayman Islands at Circuit of The Americas.
The Kelly-Moss Road and Race driver reeled off a best lap of 2:08.939 in his No. 3 Porsche 911 GT3 Cup car during Friday’s second session.
It was 0.414 seconds quicker than teammate Seb Priaulx in the No. 15 Porsche, followed by the No. 25 Team Hardpoint EBM entry of Riley Dickinson.
Times tumbled in the 25-minute afternoon session, which was delayed due to a one-hour ground stop due to thunderstorms in the area during lunchtime.
Parker Thompson, who was quickest in the damp Practice 1, was fourth in the session and on the day, with Leh Keen completing the top-five for 311 RS Motorsport.
Kelly-Moss’ Alan Metni paced Pro-Am for current-generation Porsche 911 GT3 Cup machinery while Matt Halcome of Goldcrest Motorsports wound up quickest of the Pro-Am 991 class competitors.
Qualifying is on tap for Saturday at 4 p.m. local time ahead of the pair of double header races on Sunday.
