Lamborghini has launched a second evolution model of its Lamborghini Huracan Super Trofeo that will be available for customer teams and drivers to race from 2022.

Developed by the Italian manufacturer’s Squadra Corse motorsport department, the 620 horsepower Lamborghini Huracan Super Trofeo EVO2 is the third iteration of a single-make race car model line that was first announced in 2014.

The EVO2 features several changes from the Lamborghini Huracan Super Trofeo EVO, which is currently in its fourth season of competition.

Lamborghini says that aerodynamics and design have been the two main areas for development between the standard EVO, which debuted in 2018, and its EVO2 successor.

A redesigned front end includes a pronounced ‘omega’ lip and hexagonal LED light clusters. New air curtain intakes optimize airflow around the side while the revised rear portion also contains new aerodynamic features.

The brake disc size has been increased by 10 mm to 390 mm, accommodating new brake pads with a larger surface area to optimize performance.

Lamborghini has maintained the Super Trofeo’s powertrain layout of a 5.2-liter naturally aspirated V10 engine linked to a six-speed sequential gearbox provided by X-Trac.

The Volkswagen Group brand says the Lamborghini Huracan Super Trofeo EVO2’s design “anticipates” styling elements that will appear on the company’s future road cars.

“Seven years have passed since we introduced the first Huracan Super Trofeo at Pebble Beach, and now Squadra Corse is adding a new chapter to its history,” said Automobili Lamborghini CEO and President Stephan Winkelmann.

“The Huracan is one of the biggest bestsellers in the history of the brand, and the Super Trofeo has additionally helped to increase its success”.

Lamborghini’s Head of Design Mitja Borkert added: “When we approached the Huracan Super Trofeo EVO2 project, we immediately thought of the concept of ‘Racing in Style’.

“That is, a combination of the typical aggressiveness of the Huracán racing cars and the classic stylistic features of Lamborghini’s DNA.

“In addition, the Huracan Super Trofeo EVO2 represents a futuristic aesthetic approach that partially anticipates the design elements of the next range of road cars”.

The EVO2 will make its public debut on Friday, during the second round of the 2021 Lamborghini Super Trofeo Europe season at Paul Ricard.

Its from-new price in the European market has been set at €250,000.

Lamborghini has stated that existing Huracan Super Trofeo EVO customers will be able to purchase an upgrade package to achieve the EVO2 spec.

The car is set to debut in all three Super Trofeo global championships in 2022.

“The Super Trofeo is the basis of our concept of customer racing, capable of involving and exciting both young talents and gentlemen drivers,” said Lamborghini’s head of motorsport, Giorgio Sanna.

“The Huracan Super Trofeo EVO2 is dedicated to both categories of drivers, and we have designed it with the precise aim of offering an even more engaging driving experience, while paying the utmost attention to running costs.”

Lamborghini has not said whether its Huracan Super Trofeo EVO2 will be made eligible for SRO Motorsports Group’s GT2 category. The EVO version of the Super Trofeo is allowed to compete in GT2 races with additional weight and an air restrictor.

A second evolution of the Lamborghini Huracan GT3 Evo is set to arrive in 2023.
