Lotus Unveils $2 Million Electric Hypercar

British sports car maker Lotus has unveiled the Evija, the world’s first all-electric British hypercar.

The ultra-lightweight car, presented to more than 350 VIP guests in an event in London on Tuesday, is being touted as the world’s most powerful production road car, with a target of 2,000 PS of power (1,972 horsepower) and 1,700 Nm of torque.

The Geely-owned company claims the Evija can go from 0-62 mph in less than three seconds with a top speed of more than 200 mph.

The hypercar, developed with the help of Williams Advanced Engineering, utilizes four electric motors dedicated to each wheel, and a 70 kWh battery that claims to get 250 miles of range.

A total of 130 Evijas are set to be produced beginning next year at a price tag of $2.1 million each.

“The Lotus Evija is a car like no other,” said Lotus Cars CEO Phil Popham. “It will reestablish our brand in the hearts and minds of sports car fans and on the global automotive stage.

“It will also pave the way for further visionary models.”

The Evija is set to compete against recently announce EV hypercars from Pininfarina and Rimac, although Lotus is expected to expand its model lineup to more affordable EVs in the years to come.

Chinese-owned Geely purchased a majority stake in Lotus in 2017.
