Burkett Leads Thursday CTSC Practice at Daytona

CJ Wilson Racing’s Daniel Burkett led Thursday’s half hour practice session for the Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge at Daytona, ahead of the BMW Performance 200.

In his No. 33 Porsche Cayman GT4 Clubsport, Burkett set a best time overall and GS of 2:08.380 in the car he shares with Marc Miller.

It was a wet session once again and so times were not representative of the potential fastest laps.

“Wednesday turned into a rainy practice day, so we were super pleased to be as quick as we are,” said team manager Andris Laivins. “Hopefully that translates to a good dry setup for race day, because at this point we may not see a dry track until then.”

Rum Bum Racing’s No. 13 Porsche 997 was second with the second new GS class Cayman, the No. 21 Muehlner Motorsports America entry driven by Bob Doyle and newly added Jeroen Bleekemolen, third.

Elliott Skeer led four Porsche Caymans in the ST class, with the No. 8 Rebel Rock Racing entry clear of Spencer Pumpelly’s Rennsport One, Jeff Mosing’s Murillo and Seth Thomas’ Next Level European Caymans.

Qualifying is scheduled to take place starting at 2:10 p.m. and IMSA will make every attempt to run it, even in the rain, following an offseason rule change to allow for wet qualifying sessions. In the past couple years, several Continental Tire Challenge qualifying sessions have been rained out.
