California Trip Continues for Ferrari Challenge

The Golden State welcomes Ferrari Challenge North America for the third and final time of the year, as drivers and teams descend on Sonoma Raceway this weekend.

The 2.533-mile circuit falls on the schedule after Ferrari Challenge visited The Thermal Club in southern California for its opening two rounds, and after its last doubleheader in July at Laguna Seca just a few hours south.

Sonoma has been a staple on the series’ calendar after its first visit in 2011, and this year marks the 10th trip in Ferrari Challenge’s 33 seasons of competition.

Fifty-five Ferrari 296 Challenge cars are prepared to lap Sonoma, in addition to 29 in Club Challenge and nearly ten in Club Competizioni GT.

As the ninth and tenth rounds – and the penultimate event on North American soil before Road America in September – results at Sonoma Raceway will be key for soon-to-be decided championship results.

With five wins in eight races, 17-year-old Johnny Kaminskey (Ferrari of Long Island) has sailed away from his competitors in the Trofeo Pirelli championship standings.

The rising star is currently 51 points ahead of Roberto Perrina (Ferrari of Seattle) in second place, and looks to improve on his two, third-place finishes at Sonoma last season.

A piece of paper divides the Trofeo Pirelli Am battle between long-time friendly rivals Mitchell Green (Ferrari of Westlake) and Yahn Bernier (Ferrari of Seattle).

Only four points separate the two drivers, similar to last season when Green edged Bernier for the Coppa Shell title by 11 marks at Finali Mondiali. Green was victorious in both rounds at Sonoma in 2025.

In his first Ferrari Challenge season, Blake Rosser (Ferrari of San Diego) has three wins to gain a nearly 40-point Coppa Shell title lead.

Chuck Whittall (Ferrari of Central Florida) and Charlie Menard (Twin Cities Performance) follow behind. In Coppa Shell Am, Melissa Kozyra’s mid-season winning streak with Ferrari of Naples) has catapulted her to a 21-point advantage over Fabian Sperman (The Collection).

Official on-track action at Sonoma Raceway begins on Friday after two days of testing on Wednesday and Thursday.

Qualifying kicks off Saturday’s activities at 9:40 a.m. PST, followed by the green flag for Trofeo Pirelli Race 1 at 2:15 p.m. and at 3:15 p.m. for Coppa Shell.

Qualifying 2 is scheduled for Sunday at 9:35 a.m., with the second Coppa Shell race at 2 p.m. and Trofeo Pirelli at 3 p.m.
