Burton Racing is bringing in two BMW factory aces for a one-off ST appearance in the sixth race of the Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge season at Lime Rock Park.

Bill Auberlen and John Edwards will share the No. 21 BMW 128i, with Trim-Tex Drywall Products signage adorning the car. Both were available as the TUDOR Championship GTLM class is off this week.

It will mark both drivers’ first starts in the Continental Tire Challenge this season. Auberlen and Edwards last co-drove together at the 2013 Petit Le Mans, when they finished second in GT in the last ever American Le Mans Series race.

Edwards co-drove with last year’s GS class champion Trent Hindman at Fall-Line Motorsports, while Auberlen made a one-off appearance with Burton at last year’s season finale at Road Atlanta.

“I love this track and any time you get to race a BMW at Lime Rock, you have to be excited,” Auberlen said. “I enjoyed driving for Keith (Burton) at Road Atlanta last season and I am looking forward to getting back into this BMW 128i again.”

“Bill and I are used to working together on the factory program, but we’ve never been co-drivers before (full season) so I think it will be cool for us to team up,” Edwards added.

“Trim-Tex and Burton have put a lot of effort into revamping this car and I expect that we’ll be competing for the win, especially since we don’t have championship points to worry about.

“I had both my first Rolex GT and first ALMS GT wins at Lime Rock, so maybe this weekend Lime Rock will be the site of my first ST win.”

They join Burton’s full-season pairing of Mike LaMarra and Terry Borcheller, who clinched the ST title at Lime Rock two years ago. That pair has a best finish of fourth this season at CTMP, and currently sit 13th in class points.
