BGB Motorsports is scaling back its presence in both IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge and Porsche Carrera Cup North America, placing focus on a program in Porsche Sprint Challenge North America as well as its retail business activities as it awaits the introduction of Porsche’s next-generation GT4 platform.
The Florida-based squad on Wednesday outlined that it will not run a full Pilot Challenge or Carrera Cup North America season for the first time since 2019, instead tackling just two races in each championship for the remainder of the year.
The team’s No. 38 Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS CS, which recorded a top-five finish during the four-hour Pilot Challenge opener at Daytona, will sit out next week’s third round at Laguna Seca.
Instead, the car will return for the four-hour headliner at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course on June 6-8, with the seventh round of the calendar at Road America the only other race it is set to contest.
The team has been a regular presence in the series for several years, with Thomas Collingwood forming the core of its driver crew alongside a rotating cast of co-drivers that has includes the likes of Jan Heylen, Spencer Pumpelly, Andy Lally and Jeroen Bleekemolen.
Team owner John Tecce, who has also raced alongside Collingwood at various occasions, has outlined that the team’s downscaling of its Pilot Challenge activities is set to remain in place through 2026 as the team awaits the introduction of the next generation of Porsche’s GT4 challenger.
“We have spent the last decade in support of the existing Cayman GT4 program at the highest level,” said Tecce.
“This is Tom’s sixth season of IMSA GT4 competition and together we have supported the Cayman GT4 program longer than most people on this planet.
“On the horizon though is a new Porsche GT4 offering for the 2027 season based on an entirely different model and it will start an exciting new chapter in Porsche motorsport history and we will be there once again.”
Collingwood, meanwhile, is also set for his first Carrera Cup North America starts at Miami Autodrome this weekend as the series joins the support bill for Formula 1’s Miami Grand Prix.
His sole other series appearance this season will take place next month at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Canada, once again on the support bill for an F1 round.
Instead, BGB is set to shift its focus to the Porsche Sprint Challenge North America across the next two seasons, is are currently looking for other options in North American sports car racing, while also placing increased attention on its commercial activities that includes engine and gearbox maintenance as well as retail offerings for Porsche road cars.
