Cooper Tops Opening Practice at Road Atlanta

Michael Cooper led the opening practice session for the IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge season finale at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta.

The No. 44 Ibiza Farm Motorsports McLaren Artura GT4 set a lap of 1:26.345, outpacing Robin Liddell’s No. 71 Rebel Rock Racing Aston Martin Vantage GT4 Evo by 0.238 seconds.

Jan Heylen took third in the No. 28 RS1 Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS CS, with Matt Plumb and Robby Foley rounding out the overall top five for Team TGM and Turner Motorsport, respectively.

Thomas Merrill slotted into sixth aboard the No. 14 AR Motorsport Porsche, ahead of the No. 54 Panam Motorsport Toyota GR Supra GT4 EVO2 of Werner Neugebauer and Mikey Taylor aboard the No. 17 JDC-Miller Motorsports Porsche.

Karl Wittmer set the pace in the TCR category, which featured a top three made up of three different manufacturers.

Wittmer’s best time of 1:28.009, set aboard the No. 93 MMG Honda Civic FL5 TCR, was 0.313 seconds quicker than Mason Filippi in the No. 98 Bryan Herta Autosport Hyundai Elantra N TCR.

Jaden Conwright took third in the No. 31 RVA Graphics Motorsport by Speed Syndicate Audi RS3 LMS TCR.

Second practice for Michelin Pilot Challenge is scheduled for Thursday at 9:20 a.m ET.
