Tower Motorsports and drivers John Farano and David Empringham will team up with Doran Racing to run the Tower Events Nissan 370Z for the full season in the Grand Sport (GS) class of the 2014 IMSA Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge.
Farano and Empringham co-drove to the Continental Tire Challenge GS drivers’ championship in 2012.
“Winning the championship in 2012 while competing against some of the best sports car drivers in North America was a huge accomplishment in my short racing career,” Farano said. “It has made me very determined and focused to win again. I believe that acquiring the services of Kevin Doran and the support from Nissan will truly make this a championship effort.”
The Pro/Am pairing of Farano and Empringham is sure to be amongst the series front runners at every event. After capturing the GS class title in 2012, Farano had a strong 2013 season competing in the Ferrari Challenge series with victories at Daytona, Interlagos (Brazil) and Sonoma, finishing second overall in the championship.
“The Continental Tire Challenge is such a fantastic series,” said Empringham. “It’s super competitive and so much fun. I’m really looking forward to driving the Nissan 370Z and working with the entire Tower Motorsports/Doran Racing team. I truly feel we have all the pieces in place to fight for the 2014 championship.”
Empringham also won the GS drivers’ championship in the 2005 Continental Tire Challenge, and played a central role in Doncaster Racing’s GSI championship in the 2002 series. In addition to taking the first-ever Daytona Prototype victory at the 2003 Rolex 24 At Daytona alongside Scott Maxwell and David Brabham, Empringham owns two Formula Atlantic titles and one Indy Lights title.
