Newly crowned IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge GS class champions Trent Hindman and Alan Brynjolfsson are set for a move to the WeatherTech SportsCar Championship GTD class in a Wright Motorsports-prepared car next year.

The duo, whose sixth place finish in Friday’s Fox Factory 120 locked up the title in their VOLT Racing Aston Martin Vantage GT4, will enter the full GTD season with details set to be formally announced at a later date.

It will mark Hindman’s return to full-time WeatherTech Championship competition after winning the 2019 GTD title in a Meyer Shank Racing Acura NSX GT3 Evo and Bronze-rated Brynjolfsson’s debut in IMSA’s premier series.

“We are [moving to GTD] together as a team,” Hindman told Sportscar365. “This plan has been on the table for quite some time.

“I can’t speak to too much detail but I think the timing is right for Alan. I’m fortunate to be there with him.”

Brynjolfsson added: “Exciting things coming. It will be me and Trent, it will be Wright. It will be full-season WeatherTech.

“This is pretty cool. This is the story IMSA wants to have.

“I was a gentleman driver that came in at 47 years old with zero racing experience, put in six years in GS to build my craft in that series and also brought along Trent to give him an opportunity.

“I’m excited to try something I never dreamed I could do.

“But I’m equally excited for the opportunity that provides for Trent because he’s going to get to be a finishing driver in GTD for the full season, going head-to-head with the world’s best, and he’s going to show how he kicks ass and get the exposure he deserves.”

While scoring only a single victory this season in GS, the longtime driver pairing capitalized on consistency with podiums on four additional occasions in the ten-round championship.

“If you were to pick a season out of a catalogue and have it on order, I don’t think you’d really be able to pick a more fortunate one we had here,” Hindman said.

“A lot of podium finishes, a lot of great team efforts, even when we maybe didn’t have the opportunity to finish on the podium and maximize what we had every single race.

“The development and progress of Alan has been the most gratifying of this process.”

Brynjolfsson added: “Racing has become kinda the focal point in my life. That’s been my goal. It’s always really fulfilling to go for something that’s hard to achieve and finally get it, especially against a competitive field.

“It takes everything in such a competitive environment. You need the car, the drivers, the team, you need everything to click well and we had that this year. It was just a Cinderella year for us.

“I’m just thankful for our team and Trent and everyone who got us here — my wife who that comes to every race.

“It’s been a lifelong goal and I feel like I’m going to be proud to hold that for the rest of my life.”
