Koch Takes Murillo Mercedes-AMG GT4 to Laguna Pole

Kenton Koch has claimed pole for this afternoon’s IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge race at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca.

Koch, subbing for Jeff Mosing in the No. 56 Murillo Racing Mercedes-AMG GT4, topped the time charts in the 15-minute session, thanks to a 1:29.928 lap time.

It was 0.412 seconds quicker than Alexandre Premat’s No. 28 RS1 Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport, which qualified second.

Koch will share driving duties with Eric Foss in the two-hour WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca 120 race.

Hugh Plumb made it two Porsches in the top three, qualifying the No. 46 Team TGM entry in third, ahead of Kenny Murillo and Matt Travis, who completed the top five in their Murillo Racing Mercedes and Nolasport Porsches, respectively.

Harry Gottsacker claimed top qualifying honors in TCR, with the Bryan Herta Autosport driver recording a best lap of 1:32.754 in the No. 98 Hyundai Elantra N TCR.

Gottsacker edged out Chris Miller in the No. 17 Unitronic JDC-Miller Motorsports Audi RS 3 LMS TCR by 0.426 seconds.

The No. 5 KMW Motorsports with TMR Engineering Alfa Romeo Giulietta Veloce TCR of Roy Block qualified third in class.

Twelve of the 13 TCR entries set a time, with the No. 33 BHA Hyundai of Robert Wickens set to start from the rear of the field after encountering an issue during the session.

The WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca 120 takes the green flag at 4 p.m. PT (7 p.m. ET) with live coverage on Peacock and IMSA Radio.
