Jeff Segal will return to full-time competition in at least one IMSA series, as the American has been confirmed with Team Sahlen’s Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge lineup.
Segal won the 2007 GS class championship, and has also secured the Rolex Series GT class titles in 2010 and 2012. In recent years, Segal has driven Ferraris, and last year drove in most of the FIA World Endurance Championship season.
The mid-engine experience should come in handy as he drives one of Sahlen’s two Porsche Caymans in the ST class. Will and Wayne Nonnamaker return to drive as well.
“I’m very happy to return to the Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge, and to join Team Sahlen for the 2015 season,” Segal said.
“The team has a fantastic championship pedigree, particularly in the street-stock type cars featured in the ST class, and it was really impressive to see Wayne Nonnamaker come so close to winning the ST title last year despite being unfamiliar to the Porsche Cayman.”
Wayne Nonnamaker, as mentioned, came up just short of the 2014 ST class championship in second to Eric Foss.
“We have admired and respected Jeff’s ability behind the wheel for quite some time,” he said. “There are times in ST that you need to lay down super fast laps, and then there are times you need to go door-handle to door-handle in competition. Jeff is one of the best in the business in sports car racing when it comes to both of these attributes.”
Specific driver pairings are to be determined, but Segal, Will and Wayne Nonnamaker and Joe Sahlen should be the driving quartet in the Nos. 42 and 43 Caymans.
