Joao Barbosa led a Action Express Racing 1-2 in the opening practice session on Thursday for Lone Star Le Mans at Circuit of The Americas.

Barbosa’s No. 5 Corvette DP was at the top of the timesheets for most of the session, and it was a 1:58.813 that kept it in the lead until the checkered flag.

Dane Cameron was second, just over one-tenth behind, with the Wayne Taylor Racing car third.

The session was red-flagged with just two minutes completed, as Jonathan Bomarito’s Mazda Prototype came to a halt with a braking issue on the start-finish straight.

The red flag lasted for a half-hour, but the running was extended by 15 minutes from its original one-hour time slot.

Tom Kimber-Smith was fastest amongst the Prototype Challenge runners for PR1/Mathiasen Motorsports, with Ford Chip Ganassi Racing’s Dirk Mueller at the top of the GT Le Mans class.

Jens Klingmann was the quickest GT Daytona driver, in his Turner Motorsport BMW M6 GT3.

Practice 2 is scheduled for 4:35 p.m. local time.
