Lone Star Racing and team co-drivers Anton Dias Perera and Scott Andrews will double up this weekend at Indianapolis Motor Speedway where they make their debut as a team in Sunday’s IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship race and continue in Michelin Pilot Challenge competition, both at the wheel of Mercedes-AMG machinery.

Dias Perera and Andrews will make their debut as a duo in the WeatherTech Championship GTD class in the two-hour and 40-minute Battle on the Bricks at the wheel of the No. 15 Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo.

While Dias Perera is set for his first GT3 outing, Lone Star is experienced in the class and has won races with the Mercedes in other top-tier series. Andrews’ diverse record of success includes co-driving a Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo to a third-place finish in last year’s Rolex 24 At Daytona.

“Adding GTD to Lone Star Racing’s IMSA Indianapolis program is the right race at the right time, and we are ready for our our return to IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship,” said team manager and technical director AJ Petersen.

“Everyone at Lone Star gelled with Anton and Scott from our very first race together.

“Anton has shown incredible progress and Scott is always one of the fastest drivers on the track. We have been competitive at every IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge race this season. We have also tested extensively with both the Mercedes-AMG GTD and GS cars and Indianapolis is a track on which we have had recent winning success with the Mercedes-AMG GT3.”

Perera and Andrews ran the final few races of the 2022 Pilot Challenge GS season in a Mercedes-AMG GT4 and joined Petersen and Lone Star for a full championship campaign in the No. 27 Mercedes-AMG GT4 this year.

“I think it will be an amazing experience to be at Indy,” Perera said. “We have been strong all season, and despite not winning races, I think the team has made great progress. I think we are ready to step up.

“Lone Star Racing also has a long pedigree in GT3 racing. So, this is a great opportunity for the team and also for Scott Andrews to showcase his talent. Of course, for me, it will be a baptism of fire. It will be a busy schedule.”

Andrews added: “I have raced with Anton and some others in dual-series events before, but this will be my first time competing in Mercedes-AMG GT3 and GT4 cars on the same weekend.

“I am really excited, and we are just going to focus on checking all the boxes and trying to do all the right things. Obviously, it is a big step for everybody to move to GTD, but everybody is ready and AJ Petersen and Lone Star Racing always prepare an amazing car.

“We should have really good cars, and the team has been working really, really hard.”
