AO Racing has unveiled the livery of its Porsche 911 GT3 R Evo for next weekend’s StubHub Monterey SportsCar Championship at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca, in the first-ever ‘throwback’ event for the WeatherTech SportsCar Championship.
Revealed Saturday at the Air|Water event in Costa Mesa, Calif., the GTD Pro class entry, driven by Nick Tandy and Harry King, is known as ‘Sketchy’ a sketched, concept-style version of the team’s brainstorming phase that brought its dinosaur, ‘Rexy’ to life.
“When I heard Laguna Seca was going to be IMSA’s first official throwback event, I was very excited as a long time sports car fan,” said team principal Gunnar Jeannette.
“It did create an interesting problem for AO, as our team doesn’t have much history to throwback to!
“So, instead of a historic livery, we through our fans would appreciate seeing Rexy turn into his origin story and first sketch.
“What better place for us to unveil Sketchy to the world than Air|Water. It’s a great opportunity to launch a fun project with the Porsche Community here in Southern California.”
The No. 77 Porsche is one of at least ten cars in the series that are expected to carry special retro-themed liveries in the race, including the pair of Corvette Racing by Pratt Miller Motorsports Chevrolet Corvette Z06 GT3.Rs and Paul Miller Racing’s BMW M4 GT3 Evo.
