The No. 80 AO Racing Porsche 911 GT3 R will be in a new color beginning with next weekend’s Michelin GT Challenge at Virginia International Raceway, with ‘Rexy’ being replaced by ‘Roxy’ on the team’s GTD class contender.
AO’s signature green prehistoric tyrannosaurus rex-themed livery, which debuted at the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring, has been transformed into a pink design for the GT-only race on Aug. 25-27.
According to the team, this is due to its FIA World Endurance Championship Porsche 911 RSR-19, run in conjunction with Team Project 1, will be back in a ‘Rexy’ livery for next month’s 6 Hours of Fuji.
“Due to the long voyage and Rexy’s inability to be in two places at once, the brilliant minds at AO Racing have harnessed the power of dino DNA to create Roxy, the new addition to the team’s roaring roster,” a statement from the team read.
“As Rexy embarks on his far-reaching journey, Roxy will step in to continue the legacy of the dinosaur-themed racing team in the United States.
“This feat, bridging the gap between imagination and reality, is yet another display of ingenuity in the field of Jurassic sports car racing.”
Seb Priaulx and PJ Hyett are scheduled to drive the pink-colored Porsche at VIR, with Hyett, team manager Gunnar Jeannette and Porsche veteran Matteo Cairoli in the green Project 1-AO entry at Fuji.
