CORE autosport’s Colin Braun led both practice sessions at Kansas Speedway, as he followed up leading the Prototype Challenge-only first 45-minute session with an encore in the second session, a 50-minute session combining PC and IMSA Cooper Tire Prototype Lites.

Braun improved his time from the first session in the No. 54 Oreca FLM09 down to a 1:11.715, one-and-a-half tenths quicker than from first practice. Co-driver Jon Bennett will run Saturday’s first 45-minute race in the Grand Prix of Kansas.

Luis Diaz was second in 8Star Motorsports’ No. 25 car at 1:12.085, which he shares with Sean Rayhall.

Gunnar Jeannette clocked in third in the No. 52 PR1/Mathiasen Motorsports entry at 1:12.262; he’ll share that car with Frankie Montecalvo.

Stephen Simpson got his first running in the No. 85 JDC/Miller Motorsports entry and clocked in fourth at 1:12.275, after Chris Miller ran that car in the opening practice. The pair of RSR Racing entries were fifth and sixth.

Andrew Novich, in the No. 61 Comprent Motorsports Élan DP-02, ran a late lap of 1:16.585 to lead the Prototype Lites L1 entries, just ahead of Performance Tech Motorsports’ Matt McMurry at 1:16.626. JDC Motorsports’ Mikhail Goikhberg, who won both Round 1 and 2 at Sebring, was third.

The session was interrupted for the No. 4 8Star Motorsports L1 Lites car stopping on track 28 minutes into the session, which required a tow-in.

The third and final practice occurs later tonight from 9:10 to 9:55 p.m. ET.

RESULTS (PC): Practice 2

RESULTS (Prototype Lites): Practice 2
