This weekend’s Continental Tire Road Race Showcase will see some added competition to the GT Daytona ranks, as Alex Davison will make his TUDOR United SportsCar Championship debut, thanks to a deal put together by David Calvert-Jones.
The Australian V8 Supercar ace, cousin of TRG-AMR driver James, will team up with fellow Aussie Calvert-Jones at the wheel a Muehlner Motorsports Porsche 911 GT America in Sunday’s two-hour and 45-minute race.
The effort, backed by Calvert-Jones’ sponsor from IMSA GT3 Cup Challenge, Wheels Up, will be their first start together since the Bathurst 12 Hour in February, when Calvert-Jones and Davison teamed with Porsche factory driver Patrick Long for a second place finish in Class B.
It will mark Calvert-Jones’ third TUDOR Championship start of the season after starts with Muehlner at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca and Watkins Glen.
A ramped up effort is expected for the Bernhard Muehlner-led squad, which will include the addition of the team’s German-based pit crew and further updates to the GT Daytona class car.
The lineup for the team’s second Porsche has yet to be announced.
