Helio Castroneves will replace Olivier Pla at the wheel of the No. 60 Meyer Shank Racing Acura ARX-05 for next month’s Motul Petit Le Mans, the team confirmed on Wednesday.
As first revealed by Sportscar365, the four-time Indianapolis 500 winner will team up with Juan Pablo Montoya and full-season driver Dane Cameron in the DPi entry for the ten-hour IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship season finale.
A reason for the replacement of Pla has not been given by the Ohio-based team, although it’s believed to be performance-related.
“I’m so excited to be joining Meyer Shank Racing, Dane Cameron and Juan Pablo Montoya for Petit Le Mans,” said Castroneves.
“Road Atlanta is such a great track and racing under the lights is something really special. Luckily I have a win there last year in the same car, so I’m hoping that I can jump right in and get up to speed. We had a test there last week and we’re feeling pretty confident about the 60 Acura.”
MSR is searching for its first victory in the DPi era after struggles in recent races.
