Juan Manuel Correa will return to LMP2 competition after a year’s absence, signing with United Autosports for the remainder of the IMSA Michelin Endurance Cup season.
The American-Ecuadorian racer will team up with Nick Boulle and Ben Hanley aboard the No. 2 Oreca 07 Gibson, replacing Garnet Patterson as the mandatory Silver-rated driver starting with next week’s Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring.
Patterson, according to a team statement, joined United’s No. 2 lineup as part of a “one-off appearance” in the Rolex 24 at Daytona.
“I’m thrilled to be back racing stateside after an extended period in Europe,” said Correa.
“IMSA has been on my radar for a while, so it is exciting to join the grid for the remaining endurance events.
“I’m eager to start working with my new teammates and team, I am confident we will find shared success.”
Correa went absent from sports car racing last year as he focused on a campaign in the FIA Formula 2 Championship with DAMS.
Prior to that, he competed in both the FIA World Endurance Championship and European Le Mans Series with Prema, making his 24 Hours of Le Mans debut and taking a race win in the ELMS finale at Portimao in 2022.
“It is great to welcome Juan to the IMSA team,” said team CEO Richard Dean.
“I’ve been keeping an eye on his progress in endurance racing and, with an ELMS race win and solid results in the WEC, it’s clear he will be a strong addition to our line-up.
“Our No. 2 IMSA crew had huge potential at Daytona and with the addition of Juan and a bit more luck on our side, I look forward to celebrating their IMSA successes this season.”
