CTMP to Return in Largely Unchanged 2022 Schedule

Canadian Tire Motorsport Park is set to return to the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship calendar for the first time in three years, in the only change to the schedule for the 2022 season.

Confirmed Friday during IMSA’s annual ‘State of the Sport’ address, the Canadian round will take place on July 1-3 after being forced off the series’ schedule the last two years due to COVID-19 related travel restrictions.

Canada is opening its borders to vaccinated Americans beginning on Monday, giving optimism that the 2022 event will go ahead as planned.

As previously announced, the 2022 season will open at the Rolex 24 at Daytona on Jan. 29-30, with the Roar Before the Rolex 24 set for the weekend prior.

It will be followed up by the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring on March 19 and the confirmed return of Long Beach, which returns to its traditional April date but one week earlier than normal.

WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca moves back to its originally scheduled late April weekend, followed by Mid-Ohio and Detroit’s Belle Isle.

The Sahlen’s Six Hours of The Glen is set for June 26, one week before the planned trip North of the Border, with the GT-only round at Lime Rock Park set to continue in mid-July.

Road America is scheduled for Aug. 5-7, followed by the GT-only round at Virginia International Raceway in late August and the season-ending Motul Petit Le Mans at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta on Oct. 1.

Both Long Beach and CTMP will serve as WeatherTech Sprint Cup-only events for GTD entrants, with Daytona, Sebring, Watkins Glen and Road Atlanta again forming the Michelin Endurance Cup.
