Connor De Phillippi was quickest in the second practice session of the weekend for IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship competitors ahead of qualifying for Sunday’s IMSA SportsCar Weekend at Road America.
De Phillippi reeled off a 1:50.335 lap time in the No. 25 Team RLL BMW M Hybrid V8 early in the 90-minute scheduled session, which was marred by an accident by the No. 2 United Autosports Oreca 07 Gibson of Ben Keating in Turn 10 with less than ten minutes to go.
The session restarted with two minutes left on the clock but didn’t see any significant improvements, although the No. 35 Conquest Racing Ferrari 296 GT3 of Daniel Serra brushed the wall at the Kink.
Filipe Albuquerque was second quickest in the No. 10 Wayne Taylor Racing with Andretti Acura ARX-06, followed by the sister, Jordan Taylor-driven No. 40 Acura in third.
The No. 24 BMW was fourth, despite spending the majority of the session in the garage undergoing an axle change following an off-course excursion by Jesse Krohn after setting the time.
Gianmaria Bruni completed the overall and GTP top-five in the No. 5 Proton Competition Porsche 963, edging out both of the factory Porsche Penske Motorsport entries.
Keating’s Oreca, which sustained extensive left-side damage with an impact to the wall, ended up quickest in LMP2 thanks to co-driver Ben Hanley’s 1:53.479 lap time.
It was 0.053 seconds quicker than the No. 52 Inter Europol by PR1/Mathiasen Motorsports Oreca of Tom Dillmann, with Paul Di Resta third in the sister United entry.
GTD Pro was led by the No. 14 Vasser Sullivan Lexus RC F GT3 of Jack Hawksworth, who was one-and-a-half tenths up on Alexander Sims’ No. 3 Corvette Racing by Pratt Miller Motorsports Chevrolet Corvette Z06 GT3.R in second.
Madison Snow completed the top-three in his No. 1 Paul Miller Racing BMW M4 GT3.
Forte Racing’s Loris Spinelli was quickest in GTD in his No. 78 Lamborghini Huracan GT3 EVO2.
The session saw two red flags, the first for the No. 34 Conquest Racing Ferrari of Albert Costa, which stopped on track.
Qualifying gets underway at 4:20 p.m. CDT with live coverage on Peacock and IMSA.tv.
