A late flyer by Pipo Derani has put Action Express Racing atop the time charts in the second practice session of the day for IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship competitors ahead of Saturday’s Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring.

The defending DPi champion laid down a 1:45.750 in the Whelen Engineering-sponsored Cadillac DPi-V.R to edge out teammate Mike Rockenfeller by 0.376 seconds.

Times came tumbling down in the closing stages of the session, with teams attempting qualifying simulation runs.

Alex Lynn made it three Cadillacs in the top-three, thanks to a 1:46.288 in the No. 02 Chip Ganassi Racing entry, which was four-tenths ahead of Ricky Taylor in the No. 10 Wayne Taylor Racing Acura ARX-05.

Taylor’s 1:46.689 time was nearly one-second slower than Derani’s pace-setting lap.

LMP2 was again paced by the No. 8 Tower Motorsport Oreca 07 Gibson, while the No. 38 Performance Tech Motorsports Ligier JS P320 Nissan topped LMP3.

Mirko Bortolotti was quickest in GTD Pro in the No. 63 TR3 Racing Lamborghini Huracan GT3 Evo, meanwhile.

The Italian edged out the No. 24 Team RLL BMW M4 GT3 of Phillip Eng by 0.091 seconds, with Davide Rigon third quickest in Risi Competizione’s Ferrari 488 GT3 Evo 2020.

GTD was paced by the No. 1 Paul Miller Racing BMW of Bryan Sellers, who slotted in third amongst the GTD entries overall.

A 90-minute night practice is scheduled for 7:45 p.m. ET.
