Derani Paces Practice 2 as Times Tumble at Sebring

Pipo Derani was quickest in the second practice session of the weekend at Sebring International Raceway, as times tumbled Saturday morning on a fully dry track.

The Brazilian reeled off a 1:46.940 in his No. 31 Action Express Racing Cadillac DPi-V.R to edge out the No. 5 JDC-Miller Motorsports Cadillac of Sebastien Bourdais by 0.272 seconds.

Helio Castroneves was third in the No. 7 Team Penske Acura ARX-05, followed by teammate Juan Pablo Montoya in fourth.

The No. 77 Mazda RT24-P of Tristan Nunez completed the top five, although was more than 1 second off the pace from the quickest Cadillac DPi.

Gustavo Menezes was the best of the LMP2 competitors again, taking his No. 81 DragonSpeed Oreca 07 Gibson to a quick lap of 1:49.695.

It was 0.544 seconds quicker than the No. 8 Tower Motorsport by Starworks entry of Ryan Dalziel, which sustained floor damage following several off-course excursions by co-driver John Farano.

Spencer Pigot was third in the No. 52 PR1/Mathiasen Motorsports entry, while the No. 38 Performance Tech Motorsports Oreca got its first laps of the weekend after electing to sit out Friday’s session.

Makowiecki, Vilander Top GT Classes

Fred Makowiecki emerged quickest in GT Le Mans, leading a Porsche 1-2.

The Frenchman made a late session improvement to 1:56.754 in the No. 911 Porsche 911 RSR-19, edging out teammate Laurens Vanthoor by 0.087 seconds.

Oliver Gavin was third quickest in the No. 4 Chevrolet Corvette C8.R, ahead of teammate Jordan Taylor.

GT Daytona, meanwhile, was led by the No. 63 Scuderia Corsa Ferrari 488 GT3 Evo 2020 of Toni Vilander, thanks to a 2:02.358 lap time by the Finn.

Aaron Telitz ended the session second in class in the No. 14 AIM Vasser Sullivan Lexus RC F GT3, with Gar Robinson third in the No. 74 Riley Motorsports Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo.

Qualifying is set to get underway at 1:55 p.m. ET.
