Derani Quickest Again in Practice 2 in Detroit

Pipo Derani led the way again on the streets of Belle Isle, with his Whelen Engineering Racing Cadillac DPi-V.R topping the time charts in Practice 2 in Detroit.

The Brazilian’s 1:20.387 lap time was quickest of the marathon 1 hour and 50-minute session, in leading a Cadillac DPi 1-2.

Jordan Taylor put the No. 10 Wayne Taylor Racing machine second quickest, followed by the No. 7 Team Penske Acura ARX-05 of Helio Castroneves in third.

Filipe Albuquerque (Mustang Sampling Racing) and Dane Cameron (Acura Team Penske) completed the top-five overall and in DPi.

Both Team Joest-entered Mazda RT24-Ps turned their first laps of the weekend after engine-related issues struck both of the cars in Practice 1.

Oliver Jarvis set the sixth quickest time, with Jonathan Bomarito in ninth.

The No. 85 JDC-Miller Motorsports Cadillac DPi, which had a heavy crash in opening practice, returned to action midway through the session to set the seventh quickest time.

Robichon Tops GTD in Park Place Porsche

GT Daytona rookie Zach Robichon led the way for Park Place Motorsports, having reeled off a 1:30.011 lap time in the No. 73 Porsche 911 GT3 R.

The Canadian, in a one-off race with the Patrick Lindsey-owned team, edged out the No. 57 Meyer Shank Racing Acura NSX GT3 Evo of Christina Nielsen by 0.013 seconds.

A late improvement by Bill Auberlen put the No. 96 Turner Motorsport BMW M6 GT3 third on the class time sheets.

The No. 76 Compass Racing McLaren 720S GT3, which was damaged in an accident in Practice 1, was the only car not to set a time in the session.

Qualifying is set to get underway at 5:20 p.m. ET.
