The future of Alex Job Racing’s No. 23 The Heart of Racing Porsche 911 GT3 R is unclear, as the team searches for additional funding to remain in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship next year.
With arguably the strongest lineup in the GT Daytona class, Alex Riberas and Mario Farnbacher combined for five poles and a class win at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, ending the year as the highest-placed Porsche team in fifth in the championship.
However, the star driver pairing are unlikely to continue together, with the program’s principal investor, Gabe Newell, repordidely set to scale back his involvement.
When reached by Sportscar365, team owner Alex Job declined comment but it’s understood the championship-winning squad is exploring options to keep the car in the series.
AJR’s WeatherTech-backed car, which switched to Pirelli World Challenge in a Balance of Performance dispute with IMSA, meanwhile, has not yet firmed up its 2017 plans either.
It’s understood the program is exploring different GT3 car options, with a return to the WeatherTech Championship possible.
