The GTD Pro category for the Rolex 24 at Daytona has been bolstered by the addition of a second Iron Lynx entry, with the No. 60 Lamborghini Huracan GT3 EVO2 moving classes.

The yellow-liveried Lamborghini, which will be driven by Claudio Schiavoni, Matteo Cressoni, Romain Grosjean and newly minted Lamborghini factory driver Matteo Cairoli, was originally shown as a GTD entry on the 59-car Roar Before the 24 entry list released last week.

However, an updated list issued by IMSA shows that the car has switched classes, joining the sister No. 19 car of Mirko Bortolotti, Andrea Caldarelli, Franck Perera and Jordan Pepper to create a two-car Iron Lynx presence in the GTD Pro category.

It brings the total number of cars in the class to 13. The car displayed a red number panel and corresponding GTD Pro branding as it went through scrutineering on Thursday.

Iron Lynx team principal Andrea Piccini confirmed to Sportscar365 that the change is as a result of the car’s lineup containing two Platinum drivers (Grosjean and Cairoli), which makes the entry ineligible for GTD.

The IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship’s sporting regulations state that a team in GTD is only permitted to field a maximum of one Platinum and one Gold-rated driver in the Rolex 24.

Piccini additionally confirmed that the No. 60 entry will remain in GTD Pro class for the remainder of the Michelin Endurance Cup campaign, as only one change of class is permitted per season.

The change means that this year’s GTD Pro field at Daytona will feature two entries containing a Bronze-rated driver, with Schiavoni joining SunEnergy1 Racing’s Kenny Habul.

Grosjean, who will be going into his second Daytona with the Italian squad, described the situation as a “tough challenge.”

“We’re going to try to stay on the lead lap as much as we can and see if we have the pace at the end to try to get something,” he told Sportscar365.

“But it would be absolutely outstanding to be on the podium with Claudio and [the two] Matteo’s and myself.

“Claudio does a good job. He does it because he’s passionate about racing and that’s going to have a big impact in what we do.

“If he wants to do more hours, then we’re going to let him do more hours.”
