Jr III Racing team owner Billy Glavin has been named general manager of United Autosports USA’s operations as part of a tie-in that will see the Anglo-American team utilize shop space in North Carolina.

Confirmed on Thursday, United’s planned two-car IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship LMP2 effort will be operated out of Jr III’s base in Mooresville, N.C., with Glavin heading up the team’s U.S.-based operations.

“We are particularly excited about the appointment of Billy Glavin to ‘general manager United Autosports USA’ and the subsequent collaboration with his Jr III team,” said team co-founder and CEO Richard Dean.

Glavin will oversee operations at the shop and the U.S. team of mechanics, logistics and administration personnel.

“When I first started Jr III Racing in 2017, United Autosports was a company I aspired to emulate with their success in professional racing as well as their commitment to vintage race cars,” said Glavin

“So to be joining with them and expanding their presence in America is a tremendous honor.

“My team and I are looking forward to stepping up from LMP3 machines into LMP2 machines. I anticipate the LMP2 field to be very competitive next year so to enter into the season with such a strong team as United Autosports will be a really exciting experience.”

United’s U.S. outpost is located in the heart of Charlotte’s motorsports hub, nearby both Team Penske and Hendrick Motorsports. The 18,000 square-foot facility currently houses Jr III’s LMP3 operation, among other programs from Glavin’s outfit.

“This is a really important step for United Autosports,” said United co-founder and chairman Zak Brown.

“With this Mooresville workshop, we are building the foundations of a strong IMSA operation, making our ambitions clear for 2024 and beyond. I look forward to seeing the United team in action in our new Stateside home.”

Dean added: “Having a permanent motorsport facility in the USA is an important step towards achieving our IMSA ambitions. “Charlotte is also the perfect location for our team and for our activities in North America.”

The WeatherTech Championship squad will operate on a transatlantic schedule between the UK and U.S., using the facilities, equipment and expertise across both bases for its 2024 program.

Ben Keating was confirmed as the team’s first full-season driver earlier this month, with Alex Quinn set to join the Texan for the Michelin Endurance Cup races as the designated Silver-rated pilot.

Additional drivers are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
