Pierre Kaffer will make his return to Risi Competizione, having been confirmed as the team’s second driver for this weekend’s Continental Tire Monterey Grand Prix at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca,
The 37-year-old German will join Giancarlo Fisichella behind the wheel of the team’s Ferrari F458 Italia for the fourth round of the TUDOR United SportsCar Championship.
Kaffer is no stranger to the Houston-based squad, having contested the 2009 and 2010 ALMS seasons in one of Risi’s Ferrari F430 GTs.
More recently, he’s spent his time in prototype machinery, both in the FIA WEC and in America, including drives with Starworks Motorsport in this year’s Rolex 24 at Daytona and Twelve Hours of Sebring.
Kaffer fills the shoes of Dane Cameron, who made his GTLM debut at Long Beach with the team but returns to his season-long GTD ride with Turner Motorsport this weekend.
With Kaffer taking up the seat for Monterey, it appears Matteo Malucelli, who was given a one-race suspension by IMSA following Sebring, will not return to the team.
In addition to running its No. 62 Ferrari this weekend, Risi will also offer technical assistance to the Krohn Racing entry, which makes its first TUDOR Championship start since its fourth place class finish at Sebring last month.
