Michelin will introduce a “slight evolution” of its LMP2 tire for the 2025 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship season, it has been revealed.
The Official Tire partner of IMSA will sunset the current 957F/958F and 957E/958E compounds at the end of this season, in favor of a new, yet-to-be-named tire construction.
According to a statement from Michelin, this is due to the phase-out of one of the raw materials within the current tire.
“Our goal, in partnership with IMSA, is to present this evolution with transparency and equity to all competitors,” a statement from Michelin read.
Michelin, which intends to match the performance of the current tires, will be conducing comparison tests with the new tire in a test at Watkins Glen International on May 22-23.
It is seeking current LMP2 teams to take part in the two days of running, where Michelin would provide a set of reference 957E/958E tires and test tires at no cost and run to a prescribed test plan.
Confirmation of a revised tire for LMP2 comes as Michelin is set to introduce updated tires for the GTP class in the WeatherTech Championship and Hypercar class of the FIA World Endurance Championship, also in 2025.
It recently completed a successful rollout of the all-new Michelin Pilot Sport Pro GT H1 compound in last month’s Rolex 24 at Daytona for the GTD Pro and GTD categories.
