Porsche announced Saturday it will enter next year’s Tudor United SportsCar Championship with a two-car factory GT Le Mans-class effort.

The works program, to be run under the Porsche North America banner, will utilize the Porsche 911 RSR, the same car currently competing in the FIA World Endurance Championship that scored a 1-2 finish in this year’s 24 Hours of Le Mans.

CORE autosport will act as the competition partner for the program. The two-time and defending ALMS Prototype Challenge championship-winning squad began its relationship with the German manufacturer earlier this year when it debuted a customer-run Porsche 911 GT3 RSR in the GT class.

“North America is Porsche’s single largest road car and motorsports market. Therefore, we have decided to focus a full factory program in the newly formed series, similar to our competing in the World Endurance Championship together with Manthey Racing,” said Hartmut Kristen, head of Weissach, Germany based Porsche Motorsport.

“Having finally a unified platform to compete on has made the decision so much easier to enter a GT based Porsche factory team for the first time in American sports car racing,” he added.

The driver lineup for Porsche’s full works return will come from its stable of factory drivers, with further announcements to come at a later date.

Porsche’s factory GTE-Pro program for the FIA WEC next year has yet to be confirmed, according to Kristen.
