PPM Planning Full-Season Lamborghini GTD Program

Precision Performance Motorsports has launched plans to take on a full season effort in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, with the longtime Lamborghini Super Trofeo North America squad “99 percent” confident of pulling it off according to driver Brandon Gdovic.

The North Carolina-based organization has been registered as a full-season GT Daytona entrant with its Lamborghini Huracan GT3 Evo, which is being driven at this weekend’s Roar Before the Rolex 24 by Gdovic and Eric Lux.

The duo will be joined by two yet-to-be-determined drivers for the season-opening Rolex 24, with 2019 Super Trofeo runner-up Gdovic confirmed for the full season.

While having initially declared plans for a full season effort last year, the team instead focused on the four Michelin Endurance Cup races, which Gdovic said helped lay the groundwork for a larger-scale GTD program in 2020.

“We wanted to [do the full season] last year but it was hard to put something together,” Gdovic told Sportscar365. “We didn’t get the car five days before the Roar last year.

“It was a big undertaking and a little too much to do the full year, the first year with the GTD stuff.

“We did all four endurance races last year. Halfway through the season we decided to stick with the endurance races and plan on getting a full season deal set up for the 2020 season.

“By the time we got to Petit, we had a chance to settle down and spend some time working on the car.”

Gdovic teamed with Don Yount and Shinya Michimi for a 10th place class finish in last year’s Motul Petit Le Mans, although the run was thwarted by a mechanical issue.

“We got to go test and at Petit we were pretty quick,” Gdovic said. “We qualified well and had the fastest lap of the race. Unfortunately we had a clutch issue but we performed well.

“We’re pretty confident going into this year. I guess we’ll see how the off-season work went [this weekend].”

The 27-year-old stock car-turned sports car driver, who is the son of team owner Rick Gdovic, said his family’s operation has plans to again enter multiple Lamborghini Super Trofeo Evos in the IMSA-sanctioned single-make series this year.

Gdovic said they could enter up to three cars for the season, which kicks off at Barber Motorsports Park in April.
