Riberas Joins Aston Martin as Official North America Driver

Aston Martin has assigned experienced GT3 competitor Alex Riberas to the new role of ‘AMR North America driver’ for the 2020 season.

Riberas, who is contesting this month’s Rolex 24 at Daytona with Aston customer squad The Heart of Racing, is the first driver to be given the new position as part of his deal with the British marque.

The Spaniard is expected to support Aston Martin’s burgeoning customer effort in North America, which includes the full-season GT Daytona class entry in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship.

Riberas contested the 2016 WeatherTech Championship season with Porsche outfit Alex Job Racing before moving back to Europe to compete in GT3 competition with both Ferrari and Audi.

During this spell in Europe, he finished second in the GT World Challenge Europe Sprint Cup partnering Christopher Mies in 2018, while last year having planned a full WeatherTech Championship campaign with Moorespeed, which withdrew mid-season.

“I am extremely excited about joining Aston Martin, one of the strongest organizations in endurance racing,” said Riberas.

“I have had a glimpse of their professionalism and their ambition to achieve great results, so to be a part of such an effort is definitely a dream come true.

“During the 2020 season, my main focus will be in IMSA, where I will have the honor to represent AMR in their comeback year in the series.

“With the latest Aston Martin Vantage GT3 and new AMR partner, Heart of Racing, we have everything we need to compete at the front of one of the most competitive fields in [GTD].”
