Frederik Schandorff will make his return to Inception Racing, joining the team’s lineup for the IMSA WeatherTech Sprint Cup.

The Dane will be driving the No. 70 McLaren 720S GT3 for the eight-round campaign, beginning with the Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach on April 9.

Schandorff’s co-driver remains unconfirmed. Team principal Bas Leinders told Sportscar365 that it is not 100 percent certain that Bronze-rated regular Brendan Iribe will take up the role, stating that it “might be alternating.”

The Silver-rated Lamborghini GT3 junior driver first joined the team at Motul Petit Le Mans last November, when he subbed for Ollie Millroy.

He then rejoined the team at the Rolex 24 at Daytona, finishing fifth in the GTD class.

Alongside the IMSA program, the 25-year-old will also team with Millroy and Iribe in Fanatec GT World Challenge Europe powered by AWS Endurance Cup.

“After the pandemic-affected 2020 season, it was great to get back to racing last year — and obviously fantastic to win another title in GT Open — but I’m ready for a new challenge,” Schandorff said.

“Having teamed up with Brendan, Ollie and Inception Racing at both Petit Le Mans and Daytona, I’m excited by what 2022 holds.

“I’m already familiar with the GT World Challenge Europe, having raced there in 2020, but the IMSA series will be new to me, and I’m looking forward to getting out there and tackling different circuits and new opponents.”

It’s expected that Millroy and Jordan Pepper will rejoin Iribe in the car for the two remaining Michelin Endurance Cup races.
