Sean Creech Motorsport will not race in this weekend’s Motul Petit Le Mans, focusing instead on its 2024 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship program with its new Ligier JS P217 Gibson in the LMP2 class.

With Lance Willsey unable to contest the ten-hour endurance classic at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta due to a family emergency, the team – along with driver Joao Barbosa – now shifts its focus to its new LMP2 program and the 2024 season, which begins with the Rolex 24 at Daytona just over 100 days from now.

The team recently completed the first test last week and was highly encouraged about the early progress that is likely to be a unique package in the WeatherTech Championship next year.

“Obviously we’re disappointed to not do Petit, but Lance’s family is what’s most important,” said team principal Sean Creech.

“2023 is in the rearview mirror now. We’re well underway with our 2024 preparations, with the first test of the LMP2 car at Daytona last week – which went very well.

“We’ll continue testing the car over the next few months so we’re in a good position at Daytona.”

SCM’s withdrawal officially brings the Petit Le Mans grid down to 53 cars, although Sportscar365 understands that one additional team is unlikely to show up.

On-track action gets underway on Thursday.
