Taylor Leads Acura Team Penske 1-2 in Practice 1 at Mid-Ohio

Ricky Taylor led a for Acura Team Penske 1-2 in the opening IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship practice at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course.

Taylor’s fastest lap of 1:13.601 in the No. 7 Acura ARX-05 was 0.488 seconds faster than his teammate Juan Pablo Montoya in the sister No. 6 entry.

Filipe Albuquerque checked in with the third-fastest time overall for Action Express Racing, while Simon Trummer was the quickest of the non-DPi entries in the No. 85 Oreca 07 Gibson for JDC-Miller Motorsports.

Felipe Nasr completed the top five in the No. 31 Action Express Cadillac DPi-V.R.

Porsche showed the way in the GT Le Mans class with Earl Bamber setting the bar with a lap of 1:20.148 in the No. 912 Porsche 911 RSR. Jan Magnussen was second for Corvette Racing with Jesse Krohn third for BMW.

Bill Auberlen, making his return to the WeatherTech Championship this weekend with Turner Motorsports, was the fastest in GT Daytona in the No. 96 BMW M6 GT3.

Auberlen’s time of 1:20.803 was faster than all but the top three times of the GTLM class.

The same was true for Lawson Aschenbach, who put the No. 93 Meyer Shank Racing Acura NSX GT3 second on the GTD charts just 0.024 seconds behind Auberlen’s class-best mark.

Practice 2 is scheduled for 3 p.m. ET.
