Vasser Sullivan to Use Backup Car After Practice Crash

Vasser Sullivan have been forced to switch to a backup car for the remainder of the Motul SportsCar Endurance Grand Prix weekend at Road America after its No. 14 Lexus RC F GT3 crashed in practice.

The team confirmed that it was preparing its backup car to compete in qualifying later today.

The GTD Pro-entered Lexus sustained heavy damage to both the front and rear of the car after Jack Hawksworth crashed at Turn 6 in wet conditions during Practice 2.

Hawksworth’s crash brought out the second of four red flags in the chaotic one-hour 45-minute session.

This incident led to the team being penalized by race control for causing the stoppage. If the team is able to compete in qualifying this afternoon, it will lose its fastest lap in the session.

This is a hefty blow to the team as Hawksworth and teammate Ben Barnicoat, who head into Sunday’s six-hour race seeking their third consecutive class win.

Qualifying is scheduled for later today at 3:25 p.m. CST.
