Formal Tops Super Trofeo Practice at Indianapolis

Danny Formal led the way in both practice sessions for this weekend’s pair of Lamborghini Super Trofeo North America races at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

The Wayne Taylor Racing driver, who could lock up the Pro-Am class title this weekend with co-driver Graham Doyle, reeled off a chart-topping 1:24.325 lap time in his No. 10 Lamborghini Huracan Super Trofeo EVO2.

It was 0.158 seconds quicker than the Pro class-leading No. 29 TR3 Racing Lamborghini of Dennis Lind, whose best time also came in Friday morning’s session.

The No. 4 ANSA Motorsports entry of Colin Queen was third quickest overall and second in class, with his best time coming in the afternoon running.

Darius Trinka (XONINE Racing) and Hampus Ericsson (WTR) completed the overall top-five.

The Am class was paced by Paul Whiting in the No. 74 SP Motorsports entry while TB Autosports’ Philippe Touchette led the way in LB Cup.

While the opening session did not result in any significant incidents, Practice 2 had two red flags, including a session-ending incident.

ANSA driver Connor Qval brought out the first stoppage after going off course in Turn 4, while the 89x Motorsports Lamborghini of Mike Fitzpatrick sustained nose damage late in the running to bring out another red.

The No. 72 XONINE entry of Troy Petersen also stopped on track in the session, although it’s unclear if the two cars’ incidents were related.

Next up is qualifying, which is scheduled for Saturday at 8:50 a.m. EST, followed by the first race of the weekend at 6:45 p.m. EST, which will be streamed live on Peacock, as well as the Lamborghini Squadra Corse and IMSA YouTube channels.
