Trent Hindman slipped past Mikael Grenier in Rivazza with under two minutes to go and went on to win Pro/Pro-Am Race 1 of the Lamborghini World Final in Imola.

Hindman and Prestige Performance co-driver Riccardo Agostini started on pole but lost the lead to Grenier and his Antonelli Motorsport co-driver Loris Spinelli during pit stop sequence.

Hindman rejoined following the pit stop right behind Grenier, the newly-minted European Series co-champion, and set to work trying to find a way past.

After a few aborted attempts, Hindman finally made the move as Grenier’s car began to falter. On the live stream after the race, Grenier said the car dropped fourth gear late in the running, forcing him to nurse the car home 6.874 seconds adrift of the race winners.

Patrick Kujala and Richard Antinucci completed the podium with a strong run to third from eighth on the starting grid, while Asian Series competitors Dennis Lind and Andrea Amici finished fourth with Austin Versteeg and Jeroen Mul fifth.

Change Racing drivers Edoardo Piscopo and Taylor Proto scored the win in the Pro-Am class with a tenth-place overall result.

The race was largely clean excluding a safety car period for the stranded cars of Morgan Haber and Kelvin Snoeks on the opening lap.

Pro/Pro-Am Race 2 from Imola is scheduled for 2 p.m. local time on Sunday with live coverage available here.

Hindman and Agostini are slated to start seventh in Race 2 while Grenier and Spinelli will start fifth.
