US RaceTronics will have a new lineup for its Lamborghini Super Trofeo North America campaign, which kicks off this weekend at Barber Motorsports Park.
Canadian driver Damon Ockey returns to the team, but will be competing in the Pro-Am category alongside Jacob Eidson in the No. 09 Lamborghini of Vancouver.
Patrick Liddy and Bryce Miller will compete in the Pro class driving the No. 34 Lamborghini of Beverly Hills, while Ron Atapattu makes his return to Lamborghini racing in the No. 24 Elephantea Lamborghini of La Jolla LB Cup car.
Team owner Shane Seneviratne, meanwhile, returns to the site of his racing debut, and is equally excited for this weekend’s season-opener.
“We have a really good driver lineup, some returning drivers along with some new drivers,” he said.
“I’m excited for the new season. Lamborghini has done a great job selecting a good schedule for us to race at. Kind of excited to be back with IndyCar, my roots in racing, so really looking forward to this weekend especially.
“Unfortunately, we couldn’t get Steven Aghakhani approved to race this event, but hopefully he’ll be with us for the next race and we’ll have four cars up and running as a team at Watkins Glen.
“But, I’m really excited to have Damon back and to have Jacob pairing up with Damon. Happy to have Ron with us with his Elephantea campaign and then also really stoked to have Patrick Liddy and Bryce Miller driving for our team.
“I look forward to working with both returning and new sponsors and want to thank them all for their continued support.”
USRT’s Pro drivers, Liddy and Miller, are both excited for their season-long campaigns.
“I am extremely excited to start this Super Trofeo season with US RaceTronics and Bryce Miller,” Liddy said. “We have worked extremely hard this off-season and I am looking forward to great results on track.
“Barber is a really exciting track. It was exciting for me in a Porsche with half the horsepower, so it’s going to be very interesting to see what it’s going to be like with 24 600 horsepower Lamborghinis on track.”
Miller added: “It’s been a year and a half since I’ve been behind the wheel of a race car and this will be my first time at Barber, so I am just hoping we can get out there, keep our nose clean and put together a good result for the team.
“I have worked with Shane since 2014 so to finally have the opportunity to drive one of his cars is a dream come true. So thankful for him and for the support from everyone at Lamborghini.”
Team veteran Ockey will partner with Eidson for his return in their challenge for the Pro-Am championship.
“This will be my first season co-driving and I’m super excited to be driving with Jacob,” Ockey said. “He is fast and we are looking forward to some great competition.
“I’ve never been to Barber so I have a lot of work cut out for the weekend.”
Eidson added: “I’m very excited for the first race of the season with US RaceTronics especially having the first round at Barber. It has always been a good track for me and I look forward to seeing what the season holds!”
Veteran Lamborghini driver Atapattu will also be joining USRT for the upcoming season.
Atapattu drove a Lamborghini Diablo SVR in the 1998-1999 Lamborghini Super Sport Series early in his career as well as several races in 2000 and 2001 behind the wheel of a Lamborghini GTR in the Lamborghini GTR SuperTrophy Series.
“I am excited to join US RaceTronics and Live Wild,” Atapattu said. “I’m looking forward to getting back to racing Lamborghinis and am thrilled to have the opportunity to raise awareness of our efforts to help save the native elephants of Sri Lanka.”
