Series to Line Up on Practice Results After Qualifying Called

Saturday’s Lamborghini Super Trofeo North America race will line up based on practice results following the washout of qualifying at Road America.

Heavy thunderstorms canceled qualifying for the seventh and eighth rounds of the season Friday afternoon, following a pair of dry practice sessions for the single-make series earlier in the weekend.

Per series rules, the grid for Race 1 will be determined from Practice 1 results and Race 2 from the finishing order of Saturday’s race.

It means Kyle Marcelli will start from pole for Race 1, thanks to his chart-topping 2:08.561 lap time from Thursday afternoon in the No. 1 Prestige Performance with Wayne Taylor Racing Lamborghini Huracan Super Trofeo Evo.

He is slated to line up alongside the Pro-Am class No. 51 Taurino Racing entry of Loris Spinelli, which was the cause of the first of two red flags in Friday morning’s practice session.

Pro championship leader Richard Antinucci, who set the third quickest time in opening practice, destroyed his Dream Racing Motorsport Lamborghini entry in a multi-car accident in Practice 2 and will therefore move over to the team’s sister No. 22 entry that will be shared by Dario Capitanio.

Antinucci will now line up seventh after setting the third quickest time in Practice 1.

Sebastian Carazo (Am) and John Hennessy (LB Cup) will provisionally start from the top in their respective classes, meanwhile.

Race 1 is set to get underway Saturday at 1:40 p.m. ET with live coverage on Lamborghini.com, Trackpass on NBC Sports Gold and IMSA.com.
