Dickinson Sweeps Road America Weekend

Riley Dickinson picked up his seventh Porsche Deluxe Carrera Cup North America victory of the season in a controlling run Saturday at Road America.

Dickinson took his No. 53 Kellymoss Porsche 911 GT3 Cup Car to a 6.372-second win over the No. 47 Nolasport entry of Thomas Merrill, and Michael Cooper completing the podium in his No. 33 Accelerating Performance entry.

It marked a sweep of the weekend for the 21-year-old Texan.

Sean Varwig, in the No. 2 Kellymoss Porsche, was fourth after dropping back from second due to an issue in the closing ten minutes.

Prior to the issue, Varwig jumped from fourth to second on the race’s final restart with 18 minutes to go when Will Martin and Ryan Yardley had contact in Turn 1 and dropped down the running order.

Dickinson’s closest challenger in the 40-minute contest, Martin, finished sixth, with Jason Hart completing the top-five in the No. 20 MDK Porsche.

There was drama from the start of the race, with Alex Sedgwick spinning on approach to the green flag after possible contact with Dickinson. No further action was taken by race control.

Moments later, Stefan Rzadzinski crashed his No. 93 MDK Motorsports Porsche at Canada Corner, with Pro-Am class pole-sitter Marco Cirone also getting caught out and forced to retire as well.

An accident for Michael McCarthy in Turn 5 just minutes after the restart brought out a second yellow.

Pro-Am class honors went to Efrin Castro, who capitalized on Cirone’s early race misfortune to take his fourth win of the season.

Scott Noble, meanwhile, edged out teammate teammate Mark Kvamme for the win in the Am class.
