Van Berlo Leads Opening Day of Track Action at Watkins Glen

Kay van Berlo topped the time charts in the opening day of Porsche Carrera Cup North America presented by The Cayman Islands track action at Watkins Glen International.

The Kelly-Moss Road & Race driver reeled off a 1:48.253 lap time in the morning’s session to edge out teammate Seb Priaulx by 0.323 seconds.

Both van Berlo and Priaulx set the quickest times of the day in the morning, with Practice 2 pace-setter Riley Dickinson in the No. 53 Team Hardpoint EBM Porsche 911 GT3 Cup car good enough for third overall on Thursday.

An accident by teammate Efrin Castro brought out a red flag in the afternoon session, with Castro evaluated and released from the infield care center.

Parker Thompson was fourth quickest overall and in the Pro class followed by Max Root in the No. 7 Moorespeed-Wright Motorsports entry.

Pro-Am was paced by the No. 99 Kelly-Moss Porsche of Alan Metni in both sessions while Jeffrey Majkrzak came out on top in Pro-Am 991 for previous-generation Porsche 911 GT3 Cup car machinery.

Other than Castro’s accident, no other incidents were reported during the pair of 30-minute sessions.

Qualifying is set to get underway Friday at 9:15 a.m. ET.
