Robichon Sweeps Weekend Again in Trois-Rivieres

For the fourth time this season in Ultra 94 Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Canada by Yokohama, both of the weekend’s top awards were handed out to Zach Robichon in the No. 98 Mark Motors Racing Porsche.

Coming off a flag-to-flag Race 1 victory on Saturday at the Grand Prix de Trois-Rivières (GP3R), Robichon repeated his flawless performance on Sunday morning to take home his ninth win in 10 races this season.

Not only is this the fourth weekend sweep of the season for Robichon, but the doubleheader victory also comes on the heels of another sweep just one week ago at Road America during his debut in the Porsche GT3 Cup USA by Yokohama series.

“This year has been fantastic, and we were able to translate that into good success at Road America with Moorespeed,” said Robichon. “It’s cliché to say, but it’s a very unique car, the 911. As everyone says, if you can drive this car fast, you can drive most cars fast.

“At the end of last year when I did the Porsche Young Driver Academy, being able to work directly with Porsche, I got a new appreciation and understanding of how the car works. For me this year – without taking away from the work the team has done – I’ve really focused on simple things from my driving point of view.

“It’s allowed me to be very consistent everywhere we go, even if we’re not quite happy or comfortable with the track. Just the comfort level with the car and the extra knowledge I gained at the end of last year, it’s been really great and hopefully we can keep that going into the future.”

Finishing runner-up for the seventh time this season was Roman De Angelis in the No. 78 Mark Motors Porsche.

Amidst his first season in the Platinum class – after taking the Gold class championship in 2017 – De Angelis sits second in the championship standings behind teammate Robichon.

Finishing third for the second consecutive race was Etienne Borgeat in the No. 2 Lauzon Autosport Porsche.

The Quebecker made a pass on the No. 8 DFC Motorsport / Speedstar Motorsport Porsche of Stefan Rzadzinski in the final five minutes to secure the final spot on the podium. He also took home the Platinum Masters victory.

“When I was pushing earlier in the race and I was behind (Rzadzinski), I could see the gap was moving a little bit,” said Borgeat.

“I said if I get closer, I need to find an opportunity for me to pass. Getting a little further in the race, at one point he slowed down and at the same time I felt ‘This is my time, this is my track, I need to try to push it.’ I pushed and got closer and I just jumped at the opportunity to pass. Wow, five minutes before the end of the race. Six minutes before the end of the race or seven I wouldn’t have believed it.”

Taking home his second Gold class victory of the weekend was Michel Bonnet in the No. 76 Mark Motors Racing Porsche. Bonnet was also prized with the Yokohama Hard Charger Award for the most positions gained during the race.
