Nielsen Racing has expanded to a second LMP2 car for the remaining rounds of the 2023-24 Asian Le Mans Series season in Dubai and Abu Dhabi.
The British squad will field a second Oreca 07 Gibson, the No. 34 car, for Blake McDonald, Patrick Liddy and Matt Bell for the final three races of the campaign.
Liddy, who was part of the GTD class-winning lineup in this year’s Motul Petit Le Mans for Forte Racing, and McDonald will both be racing an LMP2 car for the first time in the 4 Hours of Dubai in February.
The American pair have mostly competed in the Lamborghini Super Trofeo North America Series up to now, and shared a car in the season-ending World Final at Vallelunga.
British racer Bell has LMP2 experience, having competed for Nielsen in the European and Asian Le Mans Series in 2022. He has also represented the team at LMP3 level in the Michelin Le Mans Cup and the 2023 ALMS.
Nielsen’s primary No. 24 entry will continue to be shared by Ian Loggie, Alex Garcia and Ferdinand Habsburg.
The trio picked up a best finish of ninth across two races in this month’s opening round of the season at Sepang.
Nielsen isn’t the only team planning a second LMP2 entry for the Middle East swing, with Cool Racing having announced similar plans earlier this month.
